2026 International Energy Workshop

Overview

The 44th edition of the International Energy Workshop (IEW) is set to convene in Cape Town, South Africa, from June 22 to June 24, 2026. This prominent conference serves as a platform for the international energy modeling community, emphasizing the importance of energy modeling in navigating the complexities of energy planning and policy-making amidst environmental and economic constraints.

Conference Focus

The IEW provides an opportunity for scholars and researchers to compare modeling tools, discuss advancements in modeling for emerging energy sector issues, and observe new trends within the global energy landscape. The Energy Systems Research Group (ESRG) at the University of Cape Town, which organizes the event, integrates energy and economic system modeling with policy analysis and field-based research, focusing on South Africa and the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region.

Call for Papers

Researchers and practitioners are encouraged to submit original papers that offer innovative insights into long-term energy transitions. The deadline for paper submissions is February 1, 2026. Topics of interest include:

• Reaching net-zero emissions and climate neutrality

• The role of renewable energy in the energy transition

• Energy access and transition in developing countries

• Managing power system transitions and integrating variable renewable energy
