Climate tech startup Root Sustainability has officially launched its automated Product Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) platform, offering a breakthrough solution for companies with large and complex product portfolios. The SaaS-based tool enables businesses to generate environmental insights in minutes, even with limited data, helping drive faster, smarter sustainability decisions.
Traditionally, calculating a product’s carbon footprint has been time-consuming, costly, and reliant on internal experts or external consultants. The delays in CSRD enforcement have led many companies to deprioritize detailed footprinting. Root aims to reverse that trend by offering a fast, scalable, and user-friendly platform that turns product data into actionable carbon and environmental insights in real time.
“As an LCA consultant at Philips, I saw how inefficient footprinting could be,” said Gijs de Mol, Co-Founder of Root in a press release. “We created Root to be 20 times more efficient than traditional methods—giving companies a way to measure and manage impact across thousands of products with accuracy and speed.”
The launch arrives at a critical moment. While the EU delays some sustainability reporting mandates, other regions are ramping up. The UK is advancing its own Sustainability Disclosure Requirements (SDR), and Nordic nations are reinforcing climate legislation. At the same time, global frameworks like SBTi and B Corp have raised their standards, increasing pressure on companies to go beyond compliance.
Early adopters such as Bon Ton Toys and O’Neill are already using Root’s platform to accelerate carbon reduction. “Root’s automation and expertise have been game-changers,” said Joffrey Delfgaauw, Head of Sustainability at O’Neill. “It helps us make decisions quickly, with no compromises.”
