EIB and Crédit Agricole Partner to Boost Polish Mid-Caps’ Green Projects
Polish mid-sized businesses are set to receive a green financing boost following a €50 million loan from the European Investment Bank (EIB) to Crédit Agricole Bank Polska. The funding will support up to €100 million in new loans for Mid-Caps (companies with 250 to 3,000 employees) across Poland, with at least 30% of the funds earmarked for environmentally sustainable projects.
This marks the first such EIB arrangement with Crédit Agricole’s Polish subsidiary and is aimed at helping businesses invest in renewable energy, energy efficiency, and sustainable technologies. The loans will particularly benefit companies in Poland’s cohesion regions, where incomes fall below the EU average.
Eligible projects include solar and biogas systems, electric vehicles, and building energy upgrades. Businesses will access loans under favourable terms, including interest rates reduced by at least 25 basis points compared to market offers.
“We are supporting Polish Mid-Caps’ energy transition through strategic financing,” said EIB Vice-President Teresa Czerwińska in a press statement, noting the importance of encouraging private investment in this sector.
Bernard Muselet, Senior Country Officer of Crédit Agricole Bank Polska, emphasized the partnership’s role in fostering innovation and responsible growth: “It supports entrepreneurs committed to sustainable business practices and a greener economy.”
The initiative aligns with the EU’s RePowerEU plan to reduce reliance on Russian fossil fuels and reinforces the EIB’s mandate as the EU’s climate bank.
Crédit Agricole and the EIB have a history of cooperation, supporting projects in Poland, France, and Italy across key sectors like digitalization and clean energy.
