Event Overview
The 'Harnessing Biotech for Sustainable Fashion & Textile Manufacturing' workshop is set to take place on May 27, 2025, in Glasgow. This in-person event is organized by the Industrial Biotechnology Innovation Centre (IBioIC) in collaboration with the UK Fashion and Textile Association (UKFT). The workshop aims to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing between textiles industry stakeholders and biotechnology solution providers.
Biotechnology is paving the way for a more sustainable textiles industry by introducing bio-based fibers and materials sourced from algae and crop residues, as well as innovative processes like enzymatic dyeing and bio-manufactured pigments. These advancements are crucial in replacing traditional, resource-intensive manufacturing methods with low-impact, circular alternatives that enhance performance and provide better end-of-life solutions.
